The Port Arthur Rotary Lobsterfest began in 1990. It was originally attended by only Rotarians and was basically a large Rotary Club party. It has evolved into an annual event to raise funds for the many local charities our Rotary Club supports. We hold it at Confederation College in Ryan Hall and it is catered by the college staff and students.
Why should you attend? Because it is a great party. There will be about 300 fun loving people there, most of which have attended for many years. It is a "Lobsterfest" and we try to fill folks with as much fresh, flown in from the east coast, whole lobster as they want. Not a lobster eater ? That's okay because we also have a full roast beef buffet. We have fantastic hips of beef and every year we hear people say it's the best beef they've ever had. Add to that to dinner rolls, relish tray, mixed green salad & balsamic venerate dressing, ceaser salad, baked potato, coffee, tea and for desert, more trifle than you can eat, and you have a great meal. Begin it all with oysters for appetizers and the fun meal begins.
We suggest you come casually dressed. Something like dockers or jeans for the guys, and whatever outfits the girls find that makes them look better than their guys. Eating lobster can be messy so we provide the proper place mats, lobster bibbs and of course, lobster crackers.
But we are more that just dinner. Before the meal begins, we open the bar and offer you time to socialize and adjust your attitude. Its Thunder Bay. You are going to know half the people there. We also have a silent auction, and a penny auction, offering a wide variety of items from a modest value to a substantial value. Credit cards accepted. After dinner, our Club President will welcome you and some announcements are made. You will be reminded of the auctions, then the music and dancing begins. This is a great, casual evening and the returning attendees attest to that.
The Lobsterfest is usually held the first or second Saturday in November. The tickets are available from any Port Arthur Rotary member as well as the Lobsterfest committee members. We hold our regular club meetings at the Prince Arthur Hotel so their reception desk will have a Rotary contact if you need one. The event usually sells out so please, get your tickets early.
