World Community Service is an important function of every Rotary club. It fulfills Rotary International’s mandate to provide service on the international scene as well as to our local community. Through this interaction with the developing world and with other Rotary clubs throughout the world Rotarians have built a strong, internationally recognized network that can “get things done”. This is also a proponent in developing international peace and understanding. Rotary can often gain entry where others are denied. Since 1993 Port Arthur Rotary has been involved in 12 major international projects including the construction of 2 medical clinics on the Amazon River in Peru; drilling wells in 3 locations on the Amazon in Peru; supplying electricity to 170 homes in the mountains of Guatemala; water, latrines, and a new school to a community in the jungle in Guatemala; bedding and kitchen supplies to a senior’s home in Guatemala City and bedding and kitchen supplies to a shelter in Guatemala. Volunteers have had the pleasure to work on 10 of these.
