Foundation: The Rotary Foundation, is a registered charitable organization. It basically has 2 funds:
- the "Annual Fund" and
- the "Permanent Fund".
The donations to these funds are administered by Rotary International.
The Annual Fund
The Annual Fund donations are invested for 3 years, and interest and growth during that period is used to fund the administrative expenses of the fund. Therefore every dollar donated is used to fund Rotary International Projects. 50% of the monies donated to the Annual Fund are returned to the District to fund their international projects. The other 50% are used to fund Rotary International projects, such as Group Study Exchange, Ambasadorial Scholarships and Matching funds for club projects.
Donations to the Annual fund can also be designated funds. The most common designated fund is Polio Plus.
The Permanent Fund
The Permanent Fund is usually for larger donations, bequeaths, insurance and large payments. These funds are invested on a permanent basis and only the interest and growth are used to fund Rotary International projects.
Some of the allocations of these funds support, Polio Eradication Project, Ambassadorial Scholarships, Group Study Exchange, Matching Grants, Rotary World Peace Fellowships, Volunteer Service Grants and District Simplified Grants.
Our Club has embarked on a program "Every Rotarian - Every Year", this program encourages every member of our club to make a contribution to the Foundation every year.
Our club also provides matching funds to every member who wishes to be recognized as a "Paul Harris Fellow". The designation of a PHF is awarded when a member donates $1000 US to the foundation. This can be donated over time, however, with matching funds our members need only donate $500 US and the club will match for a PHF.
