Sergio Buoncore spoke to the club on Tuesday May 8th. He joined Fort William Historical Park (FWHP) as General Manager in 2003. During his tenure, he has successfully led the organization through overcoming three devastating floods in 2003, 2005 and 2006, while maintaining full operations throughout the tourism season in each of these years. Under Sergio’s tenure, FWHP has received several major awards, including the Best Event of the Year award respectively from the Tourism Industry Association of Canada (TIAC) and the Tourism Federation of Ontario (TFO) for Rock the Fort, a record-breaking three-day outdoor music festival, two provincial Discovery Awards for flood recovery and innovative risk taking, two Public Sector Quality Fair Awards, and three Ambassador Awards from the Thunder Bay Chamber of Commerce. He was joined by retired Science Teacher Barney DeSousa. Sergio (at right in photo) and Barney (at left in photo) outlined the Fort's plans to open the David Thompson Astronomical Observatory http://www.tbrasc.org/observatory/ at the Fort. President Elect Art Warwick (at centre in photo) introduced the speakers. Laurie Tulloch thanked them.

The speaker at PA Rotary today was Lorne Vis from Sunnycreek Farm in Murillo, one of 28 farms in the Thunder Bay area. Lorne, a fourth generation local dairy farmer, gave a informative, passionate, and humourous account of life on his family farm. Go to our Facebook Page (www.facebook.com/PARotary) to view a video his daughter, Karly, produced to give you a sense of what it's all about. Thanks to Dave Silliman for suggesting this as a topic for a presentation. It was fascinating. Murray Becotte thanked the speaker. And remember, "life is too short to milk ugly cows".
